DON’T HEAD TO CMT – CONSIDER MANUFACTURE DESIGNED WITH NO WASTE!

14 years of hands-on research and development has gone into our product design to minimise waste. We’ve also looked at the products that are the most commercially sensitive. (The ones your customers love and want to keep forever).

We’ve all read the scary statistics about waste in the fashion industry – what we read and hear is all about the consumer (you and I) what we do or don’t do after we buy fashion and accessories.

Research of the global industry suggests better waste management could save it €4 billion a year, and around 35% of materials in the supply chain end up as waste.

At KALOPSIA every item produced, waste is considered before we start. The reason we show the products on the website is to encourage you to pick designs with minimum waste.

One of the reasons there is so much waste in the existing manufacturing process of larger companies is that there is a disconnect between the design teams and the pattern makers. The combination of the facility at KALOPSIA ensures every part of the cloth is considered in the make-up of each and every product.

This means that the care and attention put into the cloth, the fabric you design or have designed is maximised, rather than spending time considering how to cut your cloth for the best product.

Consider that zip lengths are an integral part of the design of a bag or “make-up bag”. The garments we design have no fastenings and allow for multiple size combinations for each piece, so are sized S/M, M/L or L/XL rather than the limitations placed on dress sizes.

Colin Gilchrist writes:

If you are into ZERO WASTE on a personal level, I can recommend looking up Jessica Yen on the website Seamwork. Jessica wrote an article (with patterns and completed products with photographs) titled: The creation of Waste-Free Garments.

The article also shows the patterns and work of Mark Liu, Julian Roberts, Timo Rissanen, Holly McQuillan and others.
