The Journey

Since 2012, Kalopsia has been an active driver and participant in textile waste management and sustainable production.
  • 2013: Got approached by Zero Waste Scotland to work on a case study regarding a more sustainable Textile future and “The Facility” was set up to provide a textile-specific space with a focus on textile micro-manufacturing, studios and marketing.

  • 2016: Our Assemble collection was launched at the Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh.

  • 2016: Hosted Zero Waste Scotland’s Circular Economy launch, as part of the Scottish government’s 'Making Things Last’ campaign joined by EU Environment Commissioner Karmenu Vella and Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead

  • 2017 : Our founders Nina and Adam were asked to judge at New Designers down in London for the first time.

  • 2017: Kalopsia were part of the Re-mantle and Make – an around-the-table talk and showcase, centred around the use of surplus materials in Scottish manufacturing hosted by GSA.

  • 2018: Kalopsia spoke at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge alongside leaders from the performance clothing industry, academia, and the entrepreneurial landscape to discuss Sustainable Innovations in Performance Clothing.

  • 2019: The Ellen Macarthur Foundation visited the Kalopsia studio and workshop in Leith to discuss circular design and fashion for a report by the foundation.

  • 2020: Kalopsia were panellists for ‘Next Steps for Waste and Resources Policy in Scotland’ run by Westminster Business Forum.

  • 2021: Kalopsia was used as an example of good practice in the textile manufacturing industry at COP26.

  • 2022: Kalopsia moved from our workshop in Leith, Edinburgh to exciting new premises in Dunfermline to meet increased production demands.

  • 2022: Hosted the launch of Zero Waste Scotland’s Circular Textiles Fund, welcoming Lorna Slater (Cabinet Minister for Circular Economy) and Ian Sculland (CEO, Zero Waste Scotland) to our Dunfermline facility.

  • 2023: SSEAMS apparel company invites KC Manufacturing to a strategic partnership adding design services to private label customers and a new Scottish apparel brand opportunity to showcase the facility skills and craftsmanship.
  • 2024: The Ready to Order collection is designed and developed for retailers and trade alike inviting a new breed of progressive brand partners to the facility. SSEAMS brand launches its first collaboration with Manchester based Sneakerpharm as a first direct to consumer product launch for KC/SSEAMS.
